What you offer?

The National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA Wired: Evaluating Online Settlement (WESO) is a new program that will conduct digital landscape analysis with SPOs across Canada, newcomer clients survey and experiment, and develop tools and resources that help SPOs evaluate their hybrid service model. The aim is to help newcomer clients better integrate into the settlement sector by understanding the newcomer clients’ digital needs and challenges as well as SPOs’ challenges and best practices in the delivery of remote services. The Lead Research Assistant will provide support in conducting surveys/interviews with SPOs, conducting comparative studies/surveys with newcomer clients, conducting newcomer clients’ experiments, and supporting overall project evaluation.  The successful candidate will demonstrate a personal commitment to and understanding of the Y’s mission, vision, values.

Some of the tasks of this position include:

  • Responsible to gather and analyze data from SPOs, newcomer clients, and other stakeholders
  • Develop reports and visual representation, develop and maintain database, and present the finding to the program director, advisory board, and community partners
  • will assist in meeting the strategic achievement of all of the program’s desired outcomes and targets
  • Provide leadership in understanding the context and interpreting the data and documentation
  • Ensure positive, professional communication with clients and partners
  • Lead, coach, and cultivate a work environment of collaboration and teamwork

What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:


  • University or College degree or equivalent in related field


  • Fluent in English. French is an asset.

Experience, Abilities & Skills

  • Experience in research and data analysis
  • Technical knowledge in designing and maintaining databases and organizing data in a format that can be read by any audience
  • Technical ability to use statistical tools to interpret data sets and export required reports
  • Demonstrated leadership and high level of judgment
  • Knowledge of settlement sector and digital literacy
  • Experience in outreach and community engagement
  • Computer literacy
  • Establish and maintain a relationship with SPOs across Canada
  • Assist with the promotion/marketing of the overall project
  • Prepare reports to the director, staff, and advisory board
  • Support the external evaluator in overall project evaluation
  • Maintain accurate and timely records/statistics and evaluation information related to the activities undertaken/outcomes achieved
  • High level of interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • This position has a strong partnership focus
  • Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders

 Additional Requirements:

  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not more than 6 months old is required 
  • As a condition of employment, in accordance with the COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Policy for Staff and Volunteers, you are required to provide proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a valid exemption.
  • Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for the Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons, and submit the certificate of completion
