What do you offer?

The Coordinator, Child, Youth, and Family is responsible for the ongoing leadership in all child/youth/family, and services in the branch.  

The successful candidate will demonstrate a personal commitment to and understanding of the Y’s mission, vision, and values.

 Some of the tasks of this position include:

  • Responsible for the health and safety of children in all Child & Youth programs
  • Delivery of programs in accordance with the Y’s Child Protection Policy and Procedures
  • Coordinates part-time volunteers and employees in the development and delivery of child and youth programs and services
  • Reviews policies and procedures
  • Provides training to staff and volunteers
  • Provides direction to program planning and development
  • Manages and coordinates volunteers for the department
  • Conducts performance reviews for volunteers and employees
  • Responsible for programming at both our Taggart and Clarence - Rockland Locations
  • Responsible for program planning and relationship building with children and their families and external community partners
  • Responsible for tracking expenses within the Child & Youth program area
  • Preparation and execution of payroll responsibilities
  • Responsible for submitting participation statistics and financial assistance (which will be particularly important for After School Program) to the Manager
  • Management of Child & Youth accounts including the preparation of Accounts Payable Vouchers, Journal Entries, and management of a petty cash account

What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:


  • 2 years’ post-secondary degree/diploma in recreation leadership or related field with 1-year field experience


  • Fluent in English, oral and written essential
  • French language an asset

  • Effective organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to establish Internal and external relationships include other departments with the Y association, regular contact with parents, staff, volunteers, and partners
  • Execute demanding role in terms of meeting the individual child and family needs
  • Population of children is culturally diverse and high risk
  • Must be flexible in approach, sensitive, and able to meet complex family and child needs
  • High level of integrity is required in handling confidential and sensitive information about children and/or their families
  • Development and maintenance of program plans including program evaluation and program inquiries
  • Must be familiar with policies and procedures pertaining to child behaviour management techniques, YMCA-YWCA Human Resource Policies and Procedures, age-appropriate programming, Member Involvement, Partners and YMCA Canada Healthy Child Development
  • Ability to do reports and track statistical information as required

Additional Requirements:

  • Require evening and weekend work
  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not more than 6 months old is required 
  • As a condition of employment, in accordance with the COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Policy for Staff and Volunteers, you are required to provide proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a valid exemption.
  • Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for the Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons, and submit the certificate of completion.
