What do you offer?

The TRY Supportive Housing Program is a Women only Program. The TRY Housing Case Manager will work as part of the Housing Services Team that provides programs and services for individuals with affordable/social housing needs including short and long-term residents, supportive housing, Family  Shelter, Second Stage Housing for youth, counseling, and referral.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a personal commitment to and understanding of the Y’s mission, vision, and values.

Some of the tasks of this position include:

Direct Service

  • Provide general information to individuals and agencies regarding eligibility for housing in the Y’s Housing Services and specific information about the TRY Housing Program.
  • Schedules and conducts interviews with housing applicants and their support to assess eligibility and compatibility for the TRY housing Program
  • Develops and maintains individual goal plans with assigned TRY clients
  • Assist and support clients in achieving their goals
  • Provides case management, counseling support, crisis intervention, and referrals for clients
  • Provides life and social skills workshops
  • With the TRY Supportive Housing Team works collaboratively to provide Community Development programming facilitating the nurturing of a supportive living program
  • Annually the staff must complete the mandatory training for the Protecting  Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons, and submit the certificate of completion.
  • Work is frequently interrupt-driven and requires the ability to effectively multi-task

Administrative Duties

  • Provide excellent service to clients with a quality focus that meets or exceeds standards
  • Maintain standards for reporting and operating procedures
  • Report statistical data
  • Assist with the organization and coordination of special events
  • Assist in the mentoring of part-time staff and supervision of students
  • Enter service information into the database
  • Ensure client confidentiality and that all files and records are secure
  • Ensures accurate documentation of events/incidents and records in files, logs, or on appropriate forms and communicates information to team members and supervisor as required
  • Contributes to maintaining the filing system for the TRY Program
  • Builds and maintains strong partnerships with health (mental and physical) agencies to help residents maintain their housing and address health issues
  • Maintain the system(s) of collecting and recording detailed client statistics and prepares reports as required
  • Establishes and maintains a high level of occupancy in the program
  • Builds and maintains links to relevant agencies/services to promote referrals to the TRY Program. Make presentations about the program to referring agencies and collateral services.

Facility Care

  • Maintain the workplace to ensure a safe and clean working environment
  • Works with the Maintenance and Housekeeping departments to coordinate the maintenance of rooms and facilities to ensure acceptable standards
  • Encourage clients to keep common areas clean and tidy, as well as maintain their room to an acceptable level of Health and Safety

Other

  • Demonstrate commitment to Y values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility within the work environment, when interacting with others, and within the community
  • Attend staff meetings and participate as a member of the broader Y (committees, activities, events)
  • Assist with Association philanthropy initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • As per the Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons Policy, staff of the YMCA-YWCA will take allegations of abuse seriously.  
  • All staff members are familiar with their duty to report and the procedure for reporting suspected abuse or neglect of a child.

What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

Education

  • Related post-secondary degree, college diploma, or equivalent experience

Language

  • Fluency in both Official Languages (French and English), oral and written 
  • Proficiency in other languages is an asset

Experience, Abilities & Skills

  • Knowledge and sensitivity in dealing with individuals with homelessness, addictions, and mental health
  • Excellent knowledge of community resources
  • Proven facilitation skills for workshops and information sessions
  • First Aid, CPR, and suicide intervention training
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and a reasonable level of computer skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and creative skills
  • Create a strong presence and provide a welcoming environment
  • Have a high degree of initiative and adaptability
  • Excellent client service skills and focus
  • Ability to work with clients with diverse backgrounds and needs

Additional Requirements:

  • Some flexibility in hours of work to meet program needs
  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not more than 6 months old is required 
  • As a condition of employment, in accordance with the COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Policy for Staff and Volunteers, you are required to provide proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a valid exemption.
  • Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for the Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons, and submit the certificate of completion.
