What you offer?
Coordinators report directly to the General Manager and work together to manage the day-to-day operations of the Camp. The Coordinator gives leadership and supervision to Y staff and volunteers and is responsible for ensuring adherence to the Y’s Mission, Vision, and Values, quality assurance statement, curriculum standards, as well as all legislative requirements set forth. Coordinators take on a wide range of responsibilities and this role is ideal for someone looking to move into a camp management role.
Some of the tasks of this position include:
- Facilitating the onboarding and management of the seasonal teams of the Camp Otonabee portfolio
- Train, schedule, coach and evaluate all seasonal teams placed at our various camp locations
- Work collaboratively with peers and supervisors and provide feedback when necessary for the overall quality and experience of all of our program areas – Bonnenfant Outdoor Education, Camp Otonabee and Neighbourhood Day Camps
- Communication with participants, staff, volunteers, and management
- Program development
- Management of program areas
- Organization and scheduling
- Seasonal staff hiring and management
- As per the Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons Policy, the staff of the YMCA-YWCA will take allegations of abuse seriously.
- All staff members are familiar with their duty to report and the procedure for reporting suspected abuse or neglect of a child.
What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:
- Post-secondary education or equivalent in a related field
- Fluent in English, oral and written
- Bilingualism an asset
Experience, Skills, and Abilities
- 3-4 years experience working in an outdoor education or camping environment, with 1-2 years’ experience in management
- Standard First Aid and CPR “C” certification
- Sound knowledge of child development
- Sound knowledge and understanding of camping programs and team management
- Previous experience in the development and implementation of new programs and services
- Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity
- Flexible to work days, evenings, and weekends
- Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
- Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not more than 6 months old is required
- As a condition of employment, in accordance with the COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Policy for Staff and Volunteers, you are required to provide proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a valid exemption.
- Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for the Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons, and submit the certificate of completion.
