Update March 20, 2020

Dear Y Members/Clients,

It has been nearly a week into the closure of our Health, Fitness and Aquatics facilities, Child Care Centres, Language Resource Centre, and Camps, and we are still reeling from the sudden and dramatic effect COVID-19 is having on our Association and our community.

We continue to work closely with our Public Health Agencies to monitor the situation and determine when we are safely able to reopen Y facilities and welcome back our members.

In the meantime, we wanted to provide an update regarding your membership fees.

Membership payments were last processed on March 15, just prior to the announcement of our closure. We have stopped any future payments from being processed and have placed your membership on a temporary hold while we remain closed.  If you pay for the year up front, your membership will be extended for the appropriate time period.

Once we are staffed and reopened, we will be able to answer questions, process any refunds that are necessary, or reduce a future payment to compensate for the time we were closed. For questions or more information please contact memberships@ymcaywca.ca

We can't thank you enough for the emails, calls and posts of support regarding the difficult decision to close. From members who have sent notes of appreciation, to others who have asked that we continue processing membership fees as a donation, your sincere caring and generosity has been moving.

Support for the Y is critical now more than ever. Those of you who wish to donate all or part of your membership fees can do so by donating online. A tax receipt for your contribution will be issued immediately. We are beyond grateful.
It's easy to get overwhelmed and exhausted by the abundance of COVID-19 news, myths, and rumors. But there are a few things we know for certain can help:
  • It is critical that we all practice social distancing. Stay home, but if you must go out, be sure to keep 2 meters (6 feet) distance from other people.

  • Wash your hands often, for at least 20 seconds, and don't touch your face.

  • Keep your home and office clean - disinfect commonly used surfaces regularly (phone, door handles, desktop, counters, taps, light switches).

  • If you have been away, remember to self-isolate for 14 days upon your return
Remember, just because we can't be together in person doesn't mean we can't stay in touch. Be sure to join our communities on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to get the latest information.
Thank you again, for your ongoing support. We will continue to provide updates online and via email as the situation evolves, and look forward welcoming you back to the Y soon.
Stay healthy and safe!
 Sincerely,

Mike Tait
