Dear Y Members and Supporters,
We hope you are all well and have been finding ways to stay active and healthy during the past few months. In our commitment to keep you up to date and connected, we wanted to share the following information.
You have likely heard the Ontario Government has released “A Framework for Reopening our Province”, the provincial plan to reopen Ontario’s economy in three separate stages so Ontarians can get back to some more regular activity.
We are excited and optimistic that everyone is doing their part to enable our province to move through all three phases carefully and successfully, and for that we say, thank you!
Short Term Plan: People First
What’s next for the Y? Our core values, mission, and vision will guide us in our decision making in the coming days and weeks, and help us determine the best course moving forward. The YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region has and will continue to follow directions established by Ottawa Public Health and the Ontario government during the pandemic.
Our top priority is the health and safety of our staff, volunteers, members, clients and residents of our community. We value your input and would like to know what protocols you want to see in place when we begin to reopen our doors. What are you comfortable doing and not? Which programs and services do you value most right now?
We would be grateful if you could take a few moments to share your thoughts by filling out a survey that will better help us meet your needs and expectations. Take survey now >
The "Next Normal"
Your Y will look and feel a little different when you decide to return. That means necessary safeguards will be put in place, which may result in some programs and services changing the way they operate.
Rest assured there are some things that won’t change; we will welcome everyone back with kind, quality-focused service to ensure you have meaningful experiences while we heal as a community.
The situation remains fluid with guidance changing weekly, even daily, and we are so appreciative of your understanding during this time. We are taking the required steps to ensure we welcome everyone back into our facilities safely and efficiently, so we can provide the quality experience you have come to expect from us. We will not reopen any parts of our facility until we are confident that we are well prepared.
We understand how eager you are to receive news about our Neighbourhood Day Camps, Camp Otonabee, and other summer programs. With guidance from the Province of Ontario, we have unfortunately had to cancel overnight camp programs. We will continue to update you as soon as further decisions are made.
Long Term Plan: Health and Sustainability
As a charity, we are able to dream a little and plan a lot right now about ways we can reopen, remobilize, and reimagine our local Ys. We are making decisions with an eye on community impact as well as the long-term health of our organization to ensure we’ll be around for generations to come.
We want to take this time to thank everyone in our community who has chosen to stay with us, made donations, and taken the time to send kind words and well wishes. We are beyond grateful for your ongoing generosity, commitment and support, and can’t wait to see you soon.
Yours in health,
Vice President, Health, Fitness, Aquatics, and Camping
