Dear Y Members and Supporters,
It’s been 17 weeks since we last saw you, and in that time the world has changed.
We’ve heard from many members that they’re missing their daily routine but even more so, missing their Y friends and connections. We miss it too.
Even though our doors for health and fitness programming have been closed, we’ve continued to serve our local communities in many ways, such as providing emergency housing services to our neighbours in need, offering free virtual wellness programs to people from the comfort of their homes, and providing remote employment and newcomer support. We have also just opened our day camps for the summer, and licensed child care resumes next week.
We know you’re wondering when you too can return to your Y. We are guided by the direction of recognized health authorities locally and provincially, and a clear directive will be required before more Y programs or services are reactivated. However, we are thrilled to share that we are actively planning and carefully putting measures in place to prepare for reopening portions of your Y when the time comes.
In doing so we’ve established key principles that will guide how and when we will reactivate Y programs and services, at the core of which is our commitment to your safety and that of our valued staff and volunteers. We’re following guidelines from health experts and local officials to ensure that our facilities meet the highest standards for hygiene and safety, including modifying programs and facility spaces to maintain safe physical distancing.
We look forward to sharing the details and dates for re-opening as soon as they are established. Until then, you can continue to enjoy your favorite Y fitness, wellness and camp programs for all ages by visiting ymcahome.ca.
We know this has been a challenging time for everyone. Thank you for your patience and continued support of your local Y. See you soon!
Yours in health,
Vice President, Health, Fitness, Aquatics and Camping
