NATURE AND SCOPE:
Reporting to the Coordinator, Child, Youth and Family (CYF), the Playcare Caregiver supervises and cares for infants and children, between the ages of 6 weeks and 7 years old, while their caregiver participates in other Y programs and services. The Playcare Caregiver welcomes families into the program and builds relationships while serving as the first point of contact for families. This position is accountable for ensuring caregivers sign children in and out of the program and is responsible for delivering a high quality experience to children while adhering to safety standards and maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive environment at all times. The Playcare Caregiver coordinates and implements activities for children that provide healthy opportunities for learning and play, and ensures that children’s immediate needs are attended to promptly.
The Playcare Caregiver presents a professional appearance and attitude at all times, and ensures excellent customer service is provided to members and participants by proactively addressing concerns or issues and escalating them to the CYF Coordinator as necessary. This position ensures that health and safety regulations and YMCA-YWCA policies and procedures, including the YMCA-YWCA Protecting Children, Youth and Vulnerable Persons policy, are upheld and promotes other Y program offerings to encourage greater participation and enhance member involvement. The Playcare Caregiver adheres to and ensures that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA-YWCA of the NCR are conveyed to members, staff and volunteers with every interaction.
- Babysitters certification
- Previous experience supervising and caring for children in an institutional setting
- Well-developed interpersonal, conflict resolution skills and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with children, members, staff and volunteers
- Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
- High Five - Health Child Development or YMCA Healthy Child Development certifications an asset
- High School Diploma, Post Secondary Education, or ECE certification considered an asset
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR/AED certification
- Must provide a Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not older than 6 months, as per Association policy
