POSITION:                   Power of Trades - Job Developer

DEPARTMENT:           Housing, Employment and Newcomer Services

PLACEMENT:              Full-Time Permanent, Preferred start date, ASAP

LOCATION:                 Taggart Y, 5th floor

OVERVIEW:

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The Job Developer will work as part of the team that provides employment services to new immigrants and the unemployed wishing to pursue a career in the Skilled Trades in Ontario.  Reporting to the Director of the Pre-Apprenticeship Program and the Senior Director of Employment and Immigrant Services, the Job Developer is responsible for the planning and recruitment of employers for co-op and job placements, as well as providing employment consultation as required. As part of a team, the Job Developer will assist in meeting the strategic achievement of all desired outcomes and targets.  The successful candidate will demonstrate personal commitment to and understanding of the Y’s mission, vision, values and participant outcomes.

Some of the tasks of this position include:

  • Intake, assessment, development of activities and case management with immigrant clients seeking employment in the skilled trades
  • Marketing employment services and programs to clients and employers, developing employer contacts, providing current labour market info, client support and assisting in curriculum adjustment and facilitation
  • Research specific trades and industries to ease the transition for clients into their field or related fields
  • Providing employment consultation to clients and maintaining and developing career action plans
  • Assisting client with job search and making direct contact with potential employers
  • Arranging and monitoring co-op work placements for Power of Trades clients in collaboration with school board and Employment Ontario partners
  • Arranging guest speakers and site visits for participants
  • Ensure effective, efficient use of resources, provide statistical data as required
  • Ensure quality of the Y experience for program participants
  • Prepare all statistical and required reports and appropriate file documentation
  • Implement procedures for operation of programs within the guidelines and contractual obligations

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingualism (French/English) is essential, any other languages is an asset
  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma in a related educational field
  • Experience in job development/marketing, employment counselling
  • Regular access to a vehicle; local travel required
  • Marketing and human resources experience
  • Knowledge of the Skilled Trades in Ontario
  • Ability to work with employers and build and maintain relationships
  • Experience with diverse individuals, specifically immigrants, and employers in an employment context
  • High level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Superior problem solving, research and creative skills
  • Ability to work with clients with diverse backgrounds and skill levels

Requirements:

  • Must provide a Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, as per Association policy
  • Must have access to transportation
