The Y Language Assessment and Resource Centre (LARC)
The Centre is a centralized screening, assessment, referral and resource
centre
for LINC-eligible clients in Ottawa. Since 1993 the Centre has served
over 20,000 newcomers to Canada. At the Centre, we provide language
assessment services
for newcomers to determine the existing level of language proficiency
to refer clients
to LINC training sites in the Ottawa area.
At the Centre certified Language Assessors administer the standardized
Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment (CLBA), the Canadian Language
Benchmarks Literacy Assessment (CLBLA), Canadian Language Benchmarks
Placement Test (CLBPT) and the Entrevue d' Évaluation
Cours de langue pours les immigrants au Canada (É-CLIC).
Following assessment, language benchmarks are assigned and clients
are referred
to LINC programs. In addition, an Information & Referral Counselor
is available to
assist newcomers with diverse settlement needs by redirecting them
to available services.
