RE: Camp Davern Property Update

We are writing today to provide you with an update regarding the sale of the Camp Davern property.  As you may recall, in early 2015 we announced that we would close Camp Davern while we analyzed its future sustainability. In August of 2017, we shared the difficult news that we would not re-open the camp, and would instead list the property for sale.

We heard from many of you over that time – Camp Davern alumni, staff and members – and we were truly moved to hear your stories and understand the important role Camp Davern has played in many of your lives. Because of this, we hoped to find a buyer who shares our passion and love of camping, and is dedicated to creating a traditional camp experience to educate and inspire new generations of children for years to come.

We are pleased to share that after months of discussion, the Camp Davern property has been sold to Andrew Martin.  Andrew is a veteran of the camping industry with some very impressive credentials. He has worked full time in camping for over 15 years and is currently the owner/director of Camp Can-Aqua, a residential camp located near Bancroft, Ontario. Andrew’s dedication and passion is clear, and his abilities are proven; we are thrilled that he has decided to guide a new Camp Davern boldly into the future!

Camp Davern, which historically operated as an all-girls camp, will be maintaining its name, but changing who it serves. Beginning in July, 2018, Camp Davern will operate as a co-ed residential camp, and in honor of the camp’s roots, will also offer a special girls-only week session called “Davern Girls Week”.

While the Y is no longer involved in the operation of the camp, we feel certain that the Davern legacy is one that will be honored. Please join us in congratulating Andrew on his new endeavor. We wish him all the best and know that Camp Davern is in good hands!

Sincerely,

Rob Adams
VP, Health, Fitness, Aquatics and Children’s Services
