Instructional swim lessons at the YMCA-YWCA introduce and teach a variety of skills in a values-based environment. Learning to swim is more than just stroke development. It’s also about building confidence, self-esteem and lifelong skills. At the Y, children and youth are encouraged to experience the qualities of water, learn safety and movement skills.
Recognizing that everyone is unique in the way they learn and apply new skills, the Y provides instruction based on abilities and pace of progression. This is why our swim lessons are offered through a continuous evaluation program.
Continuous evaluation means that children and youth will progress to the next level as soon as they are ready, as opposed to when the session is over. This also makes Y swim lessons more convenient for your busy family as we can offer a greater selection of course times, and often, your children will be enrolled in lessons at the same time.
While the levels follow YMCA National Swim Program standards, registration is offered in six combined swim lesson blocks.
- L’il Dippers – Parented Program (3 months to 3 years)
- L’il Dippers – Unparented Program (3 to 5 years)
- Learn to Swim (6 to 17 years)
- Star Levels (6 to 17 years)
