The National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA offers 144 rooms on gender-specific floors to single men and women over 18 years of age who require affordable accommodation. Styled like a university residence with individual rooms rather than apartments, rooms are rented on a monthly basis and come equipped with a bar size refrigerator and access to a shared kitchen.
Monthly housing is often used by students, newcomers to Canada, individuals in transition due to separation and divorce, those living in unsafe or unstable housing, and individuals coping with issues related to physical/mental health, or substance abuse.
Individuals using monthly housing have access to 24-hour onsite crisis support and referral services. The Y works closely with outreach services offered by Centretown Community Health Centre, Canadian Mental Health Association and the Royal Ottawa Hospital.
Housing support staff work closely with the tenants to create an environment of mutual respect, support and tolerance.
