The YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region's Emergency Shelter Program provides safe accommodation to homeless singles, couples and families.
Persons requiring emergency housing must first be assessed by City of Ottawa Housing branch to determine eligibility and authorize placement at the Y. Clients staying at the Y have access to 24/7 on-site assistance, crisis counselling, referral services and a variety of in-house programs such as free access to all health, fitness and recreational programs for all family members. The Y also offers on-site employment and newcomer information services.
All emergency guests must be able to care for themselves. Guests should be able to:
- Provide their own food and personal needs
- Relate well to others in a setting where facilities are shared
- Carry out activities of daily living independently, including managing all personal medications
For eligibility and placement please contact a City of Ottawa crisis worker at 613.560.6000 during office hours or call 311 after hours or on weekends.
