The Federal Public Sector Youth Internship Program places unemployed or underemployed young Canadians between the ages of 15 and 30 in federal government organizations. These internship opportunities assist youth to acquire the experience and skills needed to enter and fully participate in the labour market.
This program is sponsored by Human Resources and Social Development Canada and delivered in partnership with the Y.
Our employment counsellors provide training to help youth develop the necessary employment skills. As mentoring is a key feature of this program, youth are matched with a mentor who assists with the acquisition of knowledge and skills, as well as supports the visualization of career goals and ways to reach them. Internships are paid and monitored for the full length of the program.
Since its inception in 1997, the Federal Public Sector Youth Internship Program has created over 9,000 internship opportunities for youth.
