Emergency Housing

The National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA provides emergency shelter overflow for women, families and youth.

Persons requiring emergency housing must first be assessed by City of Ottawa Community & Protective Services staff to determine eligibility and authorize placement at the Y. Clients staying at the Y have access to support, crisis intervention and referral services.

All emergency guests must be able to care for themselves. Guests should be able to:

  • Relate well to others in a setting where facilities are shared
  • Carry out activities of daily living independently, including managing all personal medications
  • Access the support office if in a crisis

For eligibility and placement please contact a City of Ottawa crisis worker at 613.560.6000 during office hours or 613.722.9495 after hours or on weekends.

For more information, please contact the Y's Housing & Support Services at 613.788.5063.
